FAQs (Summer 2023)

What will I be doing in the program?

FORGE Labs is a 6-week program that runs from July - August. Over the course of the program, cohort members are partnered and paired with a client design project. These projects are based off of client needs, and can range from brand, web, UX, UI, digital design, and more.

You will:
• Create deliverable products while following the entire design process, from defining the problem to testing the solution.
• Collaborate and participate in weekly design critiques with your fellow cohort
• Learn about different fields of design and valuable design skills
• Join a new community!

Who is the program for?

FORGE Labs is open to any undergraduate student at Boston University, regardless of major or experience level! This program is virtual, so students can participate from any location. To make design opportunities more accessible, we have created two pathways for this program: the apprenticeship pathway and the internship pathway.

If you have minimal design experience and you are eager to learn and grow by taking the next step in your design journey, we ask that you apply for our apprenticeship pathway. Through this program, you will be matched with one of our own experienced designers on our team to serve as a mentor and teacher. The internship pathway is for those who have design experience, and are ready to take on design projects.

We also have technical developer positions available to those who wish to offer their technical experience to help build a design project to reality. These projects are based off of client project needs, and can include building a website or an app.

By being a part of the program, we ask that you:
• Can commit 5-10 hours of project work each week
• Can attend weekly, 1-hour cohort project meetings
• Love design and are seeking to grow while having fun!
